Tachiyomi is a free, open-source manga, manhwa, webtoon and comic reader for Android. It organizes a personal library, reads local files, downloads chapters for offline access, tracks progress and connects separately configured content sources. It is a reader and library manager: it does not include a built-in catalog of manga or host any content.

No. Active development of the original app ended in January 2024, and 0.15.3 is the final stable release. Existing installations may keep working, but the original team no longer ships feature updates, security patches, extension support or fixes for new Android versions.

Tachiyomi began in 2015 as an open-source project by developer Javier Tomás, known online as inorichi. It grew into a large community project maintained by developers, translators, designers, testers and many other contributors rather than a commercial company.

The team ended the project after legal pressure involving how third-party extensions could connect the app to external content websites. The app itself never hosted manga or ran a central catalog, but maintaining it became unsustainable for the volunteer team, and development officially stopped on January 13, 2024.

Tachiyomi 0.15.3 is the final official release. It improved backup restore speed, made extension-repository setup easier, fixed several reader and download issues, and removed crash reporting, analytics, automatic update checks and the official extension distribution system.

No. Tachiyomi was built only for Android and has no official iOS or iPadOS version. Apps using the Tachiyomi name on the Apple App Store are not official releases. An Android phone, tablet or compatible emulator is required to install the APK.

Tachiyomi 0.15.3 requires Android 6.0 or later. It may run on newer versions, but compatibility is no longer guaranteed now that development has ended and future Android changes may affect it.

The Universal APK is the best choice for most people because it supports every architecture in the release. Architecture-specific builds (arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86 and x86_64) are also available if you know your device chipset. When in doubt, choose Universal.

Only add repositories from maintainers you trust, and remember that an extension can break when the website it relies on changes.

Yes. Tachiyomi can organize and read compatible local files stored on an Android device. Local content does not depend on external websites or extensions, which makes it the most reliable way to use the app. Local series can be added to the library, assigned to categories and opened with the configurable reader.

Yes. Tachiyomi creates local backup files containing your library, categories, reading progress, history and selected settings. Backups can be restored after reinstalling, when moving to another device, or when migrating to a compatible community reader. Keep the original backup file unchanged.

Mihon is generally considered the closest actively maintained successor and supports migration from compatible Tachiyomi backups. TachiyomiSY and TachiyomiJ2K are other community options with different interfaces and feature sets. These are separate projects, not official Tachiyomi releases.
